Mackenzie heard Jason and she nodded her head. She just wanted her daughter.
Brennan heard the door open and he whirled around. ”And who the hell are you?” Brennan asked holding a knife that was dripping with blood from Sam’s wound

Jason scanned the room, taking in Sam with her knife wound, the baby crying in the chair, and Sophie with a split lip and a knife of her own. He couldn’t be sure but she seemed to be standing weird. “About time,” she said.
Jason rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to the man with the bigger knife. “She’s a child and an idiot, did you really think she’s survived this long without backup?” he asked. “I’m the backup. Hands in the air.” He held the gun up and turned off the safety.
“If you kill him I’ll get in trouble,” Sophie warned.
“Not really my problem, if you’re in jail maybe you’ll finally stay out of trouble,” he growled back.

Brennan laughed at him. ”Do you really think a knife is all I got on me?” Brennan asked tossing the knife onto the couch, managing to knick Lizzie in the process causing the little girl to scream. Brennan took out a gun. ”Will you shut up?!” Brennan snapped pointing the gun at Lizzie

When he saw Brennan pull out the gun, Jason didn’t even left him finish speaking before pulling the trigger on his own. He saw Sophie flinch out of the corner of his vision as the bullet went through Brennan’s dominant shoulder. “Happy? He’s not dead. Would you go now or are you going to insist on making my life harder?” he asked, the gun still aimed at Brennan.
Sophie walked over and picked up Lizzie, holding her close to her chest. She was hungry and wouldn’t stop crying just because Sophie was there, but it was better than nothing. “No, I need to help her too,” she replied, motioning to Mackenzie’s mom. “She can’t walk on her own and I can’t carry her out with Lizzie.”
Jason grumbled but didn’t reply to Sophie. “You’re done, Brennan. Kick the gun away from you and back up.” he said firmly.

Brennan have a groan as the bullet pierced his shoulder. Brennan heard the guy and the gun felt like a million pounds. He dropped the gun, kicked it away. He backed up from the gun. ”you’re making me lose big money he snapped

Jason shrugged and walked across the room to pick up the discarded gun. “That’s not my problem.” he said, then moved to lend Mackenzie’s mom a shoulder to make it out of the house.

After pulling the door open, Jason motioned for Sophie to go first so he could keep an eye on Brennan. After she was out of the house he followed with Mackenzie’s mom and headed to the car.
Once she was out of the house Sophie hurried to where she saw Mackenzie pacing outside the car. “It’s ok. She’s ok,” she said.

Mackenzie heard the door open and when she saw Sophie, she felt the tears she was holding in fall. Mackenzie saw Lizzie in her arms and she scooped her up and held her tightly; but not too tonight. She cried against her face and almost immediately Lizzie settled down in Mack’s arms. Mack glanced up and saw her mom. ”Why is she out here?” Mack asked with a hiccup.

Sophie smiled gently as Lizzie calmed down in Mackenzie’s arms. She glanced back at Mackenzie’s mom at Mackenzie’s question. “Jason’s right, Brennan could find another gun. We can talk on the road.” she said, pulling the back seat door open so Jason could help Samantha into the car. “Did you park nearby?” she asked Jason.
“No, I was close so it was easier to walk,” he replied.
“Alright, you get in too, then. Mack, I’ll drive you need to feed Lizzie.” she said getting in the front seat.

Mackenzie heard Sophie and she frowned not getting the answer she wanted. Mackenzie listened to Sophie take charge and she looked at her. She got into the passenger seat and when Sophie got in, she pulled her close and kissed her softly.

Sophie kissed Mackenzie back gently then pulled back to study her face. “Everyone’s safe now.” she said then locked the doors and pulled out of the driveway. “He stabbed your mom, I wasn’t going to leave her there. We don’t have to take her home but I don’t want her getting killed because of an angry drug addict.”

Mackenzie felt her kiss back and then heard what she said. She glanced back at her mom before settling in her seat. ”Okay…” she whispered as she moved her shirt so Lizzie could latch on and eat. ”Inwaited so long to feed her that this actually hurts…”

“I’m sorry, honey.” she said, then continued in a lower voice so they wouldn’t hear her in the back seat. “I don’t really want her at our place. Should we drop her at the hospital?”
