Sophie's grandmother hadn't so much arranged a time to come over and meet Mackenzie as she had told Sophie the date and time she would be arriving at her apartment. It wasn't like Sophie had expected anything different. At least she had been given time to get the apartment in some sort of order. Since moving in, they had mostly unpacked but there were still a few things in boxes. She had removed what she could from those boxes, then shoved the rest under beds and in the storage closet.
She had applied her makeup and made sure her outfit was perfect and now, half an hour before her grandmother was supposed to arrive, she was pulling biscuits out of the oven and putting in a batch of cookies. She started cleaning the kitchen, putting a kettle of tea on the burner once she had cleaned the stove.

Mackenzie was told that Sophie's grandmother was coming to visit them and she didn't really know how she felt about it. She knew how her father was, and she had met the rest of her family when they had gone to London a while back. Mackenzie was nervous about meeting Sophie's grandmother and she just hoped that she made a good impression on the woman. Mackenzie finished feeding Lizzie and she settled Lizzie down in her bassinet in their room. She was sleeping in their room until she was a few months older and then she would go in her crib in her own room.
Mackenzie got dressed in a pair of jeans and a nice shirt. She lightly curled her hair and pinned it back so it was out of her face. She did some light make up to seem less tired and more awake. Mackenzie made her way back towards the kitchen and she yawned lightly. "The cookies smell amazing," Mack whispered wrapping her arms around Sophie's waist, her lips finding her neck.

Sophie smiled as she felt Mackenzie come up behind her. "They're Nana's favorite," she replied. "Those ones are done. They're hot, though." she said, motioning to the shortbread biscuits on a rack on the counter. "Are you ready?" she asked, feeling the nerves start to well up again. She needed to be moving and doing stuff.

Mackenzie heard Sophie and she gave her side a slight squeeze before stepping to the side. Mack heard Sophie’s question and she shrugged. ”Im nervous around all your family. Do I look okay? I tried to seem less tired.” she then glanced towards the hallway. ”Lizzie should sleep for about an hour or two which will be good.”

Sophie took in her fiancé and grinned. “You look perfect,” she said. It wasn’t like her grandmother would care what Mack looked like. At least, not that she’d say out loud. “You know you have nothing to worry about, right? She’ll love you. And if she doesn’t I don’t care, her opinion isn’t worth that much.”

Mack heard Sophie and she smiled at her. ”and you look stunning,” Mack said softly. Mack heard what she said and she shrugged. ”I just want people to like me…”

Sophie smiled. “I know. If you’re not rude she’ll love you. Especially in comparison to me.” she said. “That being said, she is family so there are a few ground rules. She doesn’t really like America, I haven’t told her that I plan to stay here so it’s best not to bring it up. Directly saying no to her or raising your voice is probably not a good idea. She’s nice as long as she thinks you agree with her.”

Mackenzie heard what she said and she bit her lip. Trying not to raise her voice would be difficult especially with her hormones still balancing out from having Lizzie. ”How come you haven’t told her you plan to stay here? Is there a possibility you’ll go back home?” Mack asked.

Sophie shook her head. “I plan on staying here,” she assured Mack. “Right now Nana seems to be on my side, though, and I’d prefer to keep it that way if I can. She doesn’t really need to know anyway.”
There was a knock at the door and Sophie glanced at the time on her phone. She hadn’t realised the time. “Ready?” she asked.

Mackenzie heard what she said and she nodded her head as she twisted her engagement ring around her finger nervously. She heard a knock abs she nodded her head. ”as ready as I’ll ever be,” Mack said softly

“Right,” Sophie muttered. She wasn’t sure she was ready. The timer started ringing for the cookies and Soph glanced at the oven. “would you mind getting those?” she asked.
She headed to the front door to open it. “Sorry to keep you waiting! I hope your flight wasn’t too tedious,” she greeted. “Come in,” she added, stepping aside so her grandmother would be able to get in.
“Sophie, it’s good to see you,” she replied, walking in and looking around. “Is this where you live?”
Sophie chewed at the inside of her cheek and nodded. She couldn’t tell if that was a good reaction or a bad one. “Mackenzie’s in the kitchen,” she said, leading the way. “Mack, this is my grandmother. Nana, this is Mackenzie Camden.”
“So, you’re the girl that managed to tame my granddaughter,” her grandmother said. Sophie raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment.

Mackenzie heard the timer go off and she heard Sophie. "Sure," Mack said softly before giving her a quick kiss. She then turned to go into the kitchen to get the cookies out of the oven. She set them on top of the stove as she heard Sophie answer the door. Her heart started to beat loudly in her chest. She was nervous about meeting Sophie's grandmother. She just wanted to make a good impression.
Mack turned as she heard commotion in the entrance of the kitchen. She smoothed down her shirt and she gave a small smile. "I guess I am ma'am," Mackenzie said softly. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Mackenzie heard what her grandmother said and she but her lip. Her hands were shaking. She didn’t think this was going to be an interrogation. ”Um… I’m turning 18 in a few weeks and I’ll be graduating high school this June,” Mack said nervously. ”I plan to go to school to become a nurse or a teacher. Still haven’t decided what I want to do just yet.”

"Have you decided on a school yet?" the older woman asked.
Sophie glanced at her grandma. She didn't really want Mack answering that question, and she didn't like the direction their conversation was going either. This wasn't meant to be an interrogation, although Soph really shouldn't have been surprised it would turn into one."Nana! Would you like some tea? I have hibiscus." she cut in.
"I'd love some," her grandmother replied, heading deeper into the kitchen as Sophie turned the burner on beneath the kettle. "Mackenzie, do you like tea?"
