13 year old Carter was walking home from school silently, kicking a rock as he walked. He had some homework to do when he got home but he wanted to write a letter to his mom. He had been thinking about her a lot lately and he wanted to reach out to her and see how she was doing and if he could go and visit her in the states. Carter groaned as it started to rain and he jogged the rest of the way home.
Carter unlocked the door and he shook his hair to get the water off. He kicked off his shoes and he made he way up to his room. He shut his door over and dropped his bag at the foot of his desk. He undid his tie and put it on his dresser. He took a seat and he got out a piece of paper and a pen. He but his lip as he thought about what he wanted to write. He plugged his headphones into his phone and he started writing. Eventually he finished the letter and shoved it into an envelope. He got out of his room and he made his way to his sisters room. ”Charley?” Carter asked as he waited for her response to open the door

It had been a long day, but lately Charley’s life had been filled with those. Jasper had gotten into a stupid argument with his mother and then for some reason felt the need to make Charley feel bad about it. Not that she really cared either way, this time he hadn’t hit her or anything. But she’d been crying and as soon as she got home her focus was on fixing her makeup. Thankfully cheer practice had been cancelled for the day so she didn’t have to deal with that on top of her mountain of homework.
She had just finally payed down across her bed with her textbook open in front of her when she heard her brother’s voice at the door. “Yeah, come on in,” she replied, her eyes still scanning the chapters she was supposed to be reading.

Carter heard his sisters voice and he pushed open the door. He glanced around his sisters room and noticed she, too, was working on homework. ”Do you know moms address? I want to send her a letter,” Carter said to her holding up an envelope with a letter in it. ”I would ask Dad but he’s not home right now and I want to get this out in the post..”

Charley looked up as Carter spoke. "Why?" she asked, frowning. She had plenty of reasons to dislike their mother, but she didn't really care about any of them. The thing that really mattered was that if Carter cared he could get hurt. She wasn't going to left a stranger who'd up and left them hurt her little brother. "What's it say?"

Carter heard her question about why and what it says and he shrugged. ”Because I want to know if I can fly to visit her,” Carter said. ”I miss mom. Don’t you miss her? She has to be lonely in America…” Carter was shielded from most of the bull crap that went down and was often protected by bot his sister and his father.
