Mackenzie saw the text and she sighed. Sure Mackenzie sent her before she backed out of the parking spot she was in and she headed towards the food store.
Kelsy felt someone shaking her and she groaned before she slowly opened her eyes. When she saw Jason her eyes narrowed. "You bloody called him?!" Kelsy snapped before sitting up and moving away from him.

Sophie narrowed her eyes. “No, I didn’t. I texted him.” she said glibly.
“Kelsy, you really can’t stay with Sophie. She has to stay out of trouble right now and you being here could get him in trouble,” Jason said gently. “Come on, you can stay with me.”
Kelsy heard Sophie and she glared at her. She then looked at Jason. "Oh now you give a fuck about me?!" Kelsy snapped getting off the couch. "Where the hell were you years ago when you just left me?!"

Jason sighed deeply and ran a hand through his hair. He glanced at Sophie, then back at Kelsy. He wasn’t sure how he could answer that. Certainly not with anything that would satisfy her. He was well aware that he’d left her after promising to take care of her and their other siblings. He hadn’t had a choice, but that didn’t feel like a good excuse.
Sophie eyed Jason. She didn’t want to get involved in this. She wasn’t in a good mental space to be taking care of a child, so she didn’t want to give Kelsy anything to cling to. But he wasn’t speaking and someone had to or Kelsy might just run out the front door. She wasn’t sure how long a child could survive in the streets of New York. “Kelse, this is a lesson I’m sure you won’t believe coming from me, you have to learn it for yourself, but the world isn’t a fair place. Just because you care about something and want to be there doesn’t mean you always can.” she said. “Jason, why did you leave?” She posed the question calmly.
“I had to for work.” he said, looking at Sophie not Kelsy.
“And why couldn’t you get work somewhere local?”
Jason glanced at Kelsy. “You know I can’t answer that in front of her.” he said.
“Then you understand why she doesn’t get it?” she asked.
“Of course,” he replied, “But-”
Sophie shook her head. “No buts. You understand her, she has her own understanding of you, now can the two of you get out of my house?”
Kelsy heard Sophie speak and then she listened to Jason. "I don't need this," Kelsy muttered as she made her way to the front door. She opened the door and slammed it shut behind her as she took off down the stairs. She took off down the street. She didn't know where she was going but clearly Sophie didn't want her and Jason wasn't much better.

Sophie watched as Kelsy ran out the door. “Apparently she’s really not going with you. Did you kick a puppy on the way out or something?” she asked.
Jason shrugged. “It really doesn’t matter she can’t be out on the streets.”
Sophie sighed. She was going to leave Kelsy to fend for herself, even if she wasn’t happy about having to deal with her. “Go home, Jason. If you go looking for her she won’t come back.” she said, then walked out the front door. “Kelsy!” she called as she made it out the building. She caught a glimpse of the girl and headed in that direction.
Kelsy could hear Sophie calling her. She glanced back before she took off running. Kelsy was an avid runner so she was pretty fast. Kelsy made a sharp left down an alleyway and she glanced around. She saw a fence and she shrugged. She ran towards it, jumped and scaled the fence easily. She jumped down, wincing slightly as her ankle twinged. She glanced behind her and didn't see Sophie. She took off running and made a sharp right, hidden by a wall.

Sophie chased Kelsy down the ally. She was normally pretty fast, but it had been a few months since she worked on the streets and she’d gotten a bit out of shape. Nevertheless, she kept up with Kelsy up until a fence. She glanced around for any side exits Kelsy might have taken before resigning herself to climbing over it, careful on her way down. She would have called for Kelsy again, but this ally seemed dangerous and she didn’t want to alert any criminals to an unattended child running loose through there territory.
Kelsy took a deep breath before she took off down the path she was down. She made another left and she turned to look behind her when she ran into someone, causing her to fall on her butt.
"Well well well... what do we have here..." the man said turning around. "What's a pretty little thing like you wandering down an alley all alone?"
Kelsy scrambled up and she took a few steps back before she bumped into someone else. She gave a shriek as the person she ran into grabbed her arms.

Sophie walked as quietly as she could, keeping her ears open for any noise. She didn’t want to make a commotion. If Kelsy could get through this dark patch of ally’s safely that was what mattered most at the moment. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem to be so lucky. When Sophie heard the shriek she started running again.
She slowed down and caught her breath before turning the final corner, quickly taking in the scene and jumping into action. “Thats quiet enough boys, you should really pick on someone more… experienced.” she drawled. Getting Kelsy out of there safely was the top priority so she’d gladly take their attention even if it was the last thing she wanted.
The two men turned to the new voice and the bigger of the two smirked. "Well it must be our lucky day. A girl for each of us," He said his friend.
Kelsy looked around and she really wished she had her knife on her. She closed her eyes and took a few breaths. She had to plan this out to make sure she got out of their safely. Her shriek was because she was taken off guard. She hadn't been expecting two guys in the alley.

Sophie smirked, making sure she looked a lot more confident than she felt. “Oh, you think one of you is enough to take me?” she asked. She bit her bottom lip as she eyed the men up and down slowly. She’d grabbed her purse before leaving so she’d have her keys to the apartment so she had a small knife. She wasn’t sure whether she’d be better off using it herself or tossing it to Kelsy. She was sure her mom had taught her to weird a weapon, and Sophie had more body weight and training so she’d probably fair better in hand to hand than Kelsy would. Unless she could get to both of them with one knife before Kelsy got hurt. “You sure you don’t want to call in some backup,” she drawled, using the insult to naturally get closer to the group. She’d need to be quick to successfully get the knife to Kelsy without them intervening. The last thing she wanted was to give them a blade.
Kelsy heard Sophie and she narrowed her eyes wondering what she was up to. She didn't get why Sophie was helping her when she clearly didn't care about her. She had made that abundantly clear at the apartment when she had shown up.
"We don't need backup," He said to her as he patted his waist where he held a gun.

“Big gun,” she grinned. “You know, I have something that might interest you,” she said, her hand slipping into her purse and instantly going to the familiar steel of her blade. She grabbed the hilt. “It’s called a breath mint,” she said, then in one smooth motion threw it past the two men so it lodged in a trash bag behind Kelsy. She proceeded to step towards the man with a gun. The second he drew it she could disarm him, but she needed to make sure he didn’t aim at Kelsy.
"Are you insulting me?" He snarled at her as he reached into his waist to grab his gun. His hand firmly wrapped around the butt of the gun and he pulled it out of the band of his pants.
With the one guy distracted, Kelsy was able to get free from the guy who had a hold on her. She elbowed him and then stomped on his foot before kicking him on the stomach, causing him to hunch over.
