It's been about a month since Lizzie was born and Mackenzie couldn't be happier. She was adjusting to motherhood quite well even though the lack of sleep was getting to her a little bit. She was exhausted most days but often napped when the baby napped. She was still out of work for about another week or two and she didn't know if she wanted to return back to work. She knew she had to but being home with Lizzie was something she loved. She was often told my Sophie that she was a natural at being a mother and that made her happy to hear because she had been worried that because of her upbringing she wouldn't be a good mom to their daughter.
After being up all night with Lizzie, because the little girl was having some serious gas issues, Mackenzie finally got up for the day around 6am. Lizzie was fast asleep in the bed next to her and she sighed. "Now you decide to finally sleep," Mack muttered as she slowly got out of bed. She didn't want to disturb her daughter. As she made her way into the bathroom in her and Sophie's room, she turned on the light and then the shower. Mackenzie needed to wake up and the best way was to shower. As she stripped off her clothes, she undid her braid. She quickly ran a brush through her hair and then stepped into the shower. She sighed as the warm water soothed her aching breasts and slowly woke her up.
After Mack's shower, she wrapped a towel around her body. She exited the bathroom and quickly got her clothes to wear before returning to the bathroom. Lizzie was still sleeping but she knew the little girl would be up to eat in a bit. She got dressed and threw her hair up in a messy bun today. She didn't feel like doing anything with it because she had to run out to Target to get more diapers and wipes as well as some more onesies for Lizzie. As Mackenzie slipped her shirt over her head, she heard Lizzie whine. Mackenzie took a few deep breaths and she made her way into the bedroom. "Good morning my sweet girl," Mack whispered as she sat on the bed. She grabbed the cart with the diapers and wipes and grabbed the wipes and a single diaper. She unswaddled Lizzie and began to change her. She then redressed her and shimmied her shirt down so Lizzie could latch on and feed. Mackenzie lent back against the pillows and grabbed her phone. While Lizzie ate, she scrolled social media. She missed Sophie a lot and she couldn't wait for her girlfriend to get home from London. She really did love having help with Lizzie.
About an hour later, Mackenzie made sure she had the diaper bag all packed for Lizzie and she went and grabbed the keys to Sophie's car. She had driven Sophie to the airport when she was leaving for London so that way she could utilize the car while Sophie was gone. Honestly she didn't expect to go anywhere with Lizzie because she was still afraid to go out in public with her but she knew she had to today. They were down to the last diaper and last pack of wipes. She should have made Sophie go before she left or she should have gone before Sophie left. But she didn't, so she settled Lizzie in her carrier, grabbed her paci and made her way to the car. She settled the carseat into the car and made sure she had her paci before she shut the door. She got into the front seat and headed off towards Target. She glanced at the mirror where she could see Lizzie and she sighed as she saw the little girl falling asleep. Maybe this outing wouldn't be so terrible.
Mackenzie quickly got to Target and she found a parking spot close to the front. She got out of the car and loaded the little girl into the stroller so she could easily push her without waking her up. Thankfully she only had to get three things so it didn't require a full shopping cart. She began the journey through Target hoping that Lizzie slept for most of the Target trip. She had the babies car seat covered so that way no one could see her.
"Mackenzie?" A voice called as she walked. Mackenzie paused. She knew that voice. It was a voice that she wasn't supposed to hear anymore. A voice that Sophie had told to never contact her or speak to her again.
Mackenzie slowly turned around. "Mother," Mack said to her as she looked at her mom.
"You look... not pregnant," She said hesitantly. "Is-"
"The baby is fine for your information. But I do believe that my girlfriend told you to leave me alone," Mack said to her as she started walking.
"Mackenzie I'm sorry," Samantha said as she followed Mackenzie.
"Are you really going to play this game? That you're sorry?" Mack snapped at her. "Sorry for what exactly? Beating the shit out of me growing up? Letting your boyfriend rape me which resulted in a kid. Which, by the way, he's not on the birth certificate. He'll never know who this baby is. As far as she will know, Sophie and I are her parents."
"I want to see her," Sam said stepping forward and reaching for the cover of the carseat.
"No! You don't get to see her!" Mack said moving her daughter away from her mother.
"Ma'am? Is everything okay?"[/i] A security guard asked coming over to the two of them.
Mackenzie looked at her mother. "This woman is harassing me and she tried to remove the cover off my baby's carrier to look at it. I don't want her near me," Mack said to him.
The security guard stood straighter and turned to Sam. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave,"[/i] He said taking Sam by the arm and escorting her out of the store.
Mack felt the tears fill her eyes and she quickly rushed through Target to get the items she needed. She paid for her items and quickly rushed to her car seeing her mom out of the corner of her eyes in her own car. SHe could see her mom's boyfriend sitting in their too and she ducked her head and quickly got her daughter and the bags in the car.
