Carter and Josh were hanging out that day at the movies, seeing a movie that they haven't seen before. Carter was driving because he and Josh often took turns on who would drive. The drive home started out normal, like any other drive. They were singing and talking and just enjoying each other's company. Carter was on top of the world. He loved Josh and they had been together for a while now. They had often talked about getting engaged right after high school and it was something Carter was looking forward to.
While the drive home started off normal, it suddenly became not normal. Carter was sitting at a red light waiting to go and Josh was saying something about how he wanted him to spend the night that night. Of course Carter wanted to and as the light turned green, Carter told him he would ask his mom but he would love to. Carter had pulled forward into the intersection, since the light was green, and out of nowhere, someone slammed into the passenger side of his car at a high speed. This caused the car to flip multiple times. Carter remembered screaming for Josh before promptly passing out.

At the hospital, a cop had managed to find the emergency contact information for Carter. She found a number with the name Charley listed as the emergency contact. She grabbed the nurses phone and punched in the number for Charley and held the receiver up to her ear. She could hear the ringing in her ear.

Charley was just finishing up class when her phone started ringing. She frowned down at the unknown number before flipping it open. “Charley speaking, who is this?” she asked, readjusting her bag on her shoulder.

”Good afternoon Ms Steel,” the cop said into the receiver. ”This is officer Sampson. Your brother was involved in a very serious car accident and he is currently undergoing surgery. I found your contact information in his phone. You may want to get down to the hospital.”
