Sophie glanced at Mack then shook her head. "Tennis shoes. Or something sturdier. If it comes down to running you won't want to be wearing slippers," she said, pulling on her own converse.

Mack heard what Sophie said and she bit her lip. She kicked off her slippers and she grabbed her tennis shoes and slid them on her feet. ”Shes going to be okay right?” Mack asked Sophie.

Sophie took Mackenzie's hand and squeezed it, looking into her eyes. "It's not her that they want. We're going to get her out. But first we have to have a plan and for that I need to talk to the people I work with."

Mack heard what she said as she held her hand. ”Are you going to be okay? I need you to come home with me… I need you baby… I can’t… I’d die without you…” Mack said as a tear slid down her cheek.

"Yeah. The people I work with are dangerous but we watch each others' backs. They won't let anything happen to me." she said, wiping away Mackenzie's tear. "But we have to go now, ok?" she asked, glancing at her watch.

Mackenzie heard Sophie and she nodded her head. She quickly grabbed her phone and took Sophie’s hand in hers. She laced their fingers together and gave it a gentle squeeze.

Sophie grabbed some cash from an envelope in the closet and tucked it in her pocket before heading out. She led Mackenzie through various back roads until they came to a tucked away, abandoned courtyard. The guy leaning against the wall saw her before she saw him. "Valerie," he said, "You're late."
Sophie nodded. "Yeah, I got held up." she said apologetically. "Where's Peyton?"
"Also late," the guy said. "I swear to god, someone had better be bleeding or on fire." he growled.
"They sort of are," Soph said. She turned to Mackenzie. "This is Jason. I work pretty closely with him," she said.
"Yeah, I recognize her from the strip club. That was a long time ago, though." he said.

Mackenzie followed Sophie closely. She didn’t need to get separated from her. That was the last thing she needed. She listened to the interaction between Sophie and the guy in front of her. Mack heard what he said to her and she blushed slightly. ”Not one of my finer moments…” Mack said gripping the bag on her shoulder nervously.

Sophie glanced behind her as she heard footsteps. A somewhat familiar face appeared. The last time she'd seen him she'd been almost unconscious and very looped out on pain killers. "Peyton, nice of you to join us." she said.
"Val, what's going on?" Jason asked.
"A friend of mine was kidnapped. They're holding her ransom. They want me, alone and unarmed, with $2,000." she said.
"And why is he involved?" he asked, motioning to Peyton.
Sophie pulled out her work phone and opened up the last text with the address, then handed it to Peyton. "Recognize that?" she asked.
"Yeah, that's one of the safehouses of the people I'm tracking down." Peyton nodded and handed back the phone.
"The same people who shot me because of you and are pissed at me for their friend dying because I'm the last known contact of his." she said, a bit of a growl in her voice.
"No need for that," Peyton said, "I'll help you."
"What about her?" Jason asked, turning to Mack. "Is she pregnant?" Sophie shrugged, not sure what to say there. If he wanted to talk Mack out of joining them she wouldn't stop him.

Mackenzie listened to the interaction between the three people in front of her. She could feel her stomach churn with anxiety and the fact that morning sickness wasn’t just in the morning. It was an all day thing lately. She looked at the guy Jason. ”Oh I’m coming with you guys. She’s my best friend,” Mack said. ”Doesnt matter if I’m pregnant.”

Mackenzie heard what everyone said. ”Ive already come this far. Would you really make me walk all the way back by myself in the dark?” Mack asked a little hurt by what Sophie said about her and a gun.

Jason opened his mouth but Sophie held up her hand. "Do you want to argue and risk an innocent girl getting hurt or do you want to hear my plan?" she snapped. He fell silent and she smiled. "Good. Jason, you have a spare knife? Give it to her, it's better than nothing." she began. "Peyton, do you have a layout of the building?"
Peyton nodded and began scrolling through his phone and Jason pulled out a blade and handed it to Mack. "Don't cut yourself with it," he said.

Mackenzie saw Jason begin to open his mouth and she heard Sophie interject. She wasn’t planning on going anywhere regardless. Mack looked at Jason who was holding out the knife for her to take. She took it and looked at him. ”Well shit. You figured out my plan,” Mack snapped.

Jason glowered at Mackenzie. Peyton handed Sophie his phone and she looked at the layout. "Alright, here's the plan." she said. "We're bringing two cars. You," she looked at Mackenzie, "Are going to wait in one car and once we get Christine free you're going to get her as far away as possible." She waited for confirmation and hoped Mackenzie wouldn't argue about this.
