It has been a few weeks since Mackenzie had went to visit Sophie at the treatment center. She didn't want to leave the center when she had to but she did. The nights were boring for her and she missed Sophie sleeping next to her dearly. Talking to her on the phone wasn't the same and she hated hanging up the phone. When she went to visit her, she hated leaving and going back home to an apartment with one person who was neutral and one person who hated her. Jesse and Archie had yet to move out so Mack tended to avoid them when necessary.
Mackenzie had just gotten home from a short shift at work. She was exhausted having barely slept the night before. She yawned as she kicked off her shoes and hung up her keys. She let her hair out of her braid and she made her way to her bedroom. Upon entering her room, she set her bag down and took out her contacts and put on her glasses. She grabbed her journal from her nightstand and she grabbed a pen. She stuck her airpods in her ears and she began to write. She could feel the tears fill her eyes as she thought about Sophie and how much she wanted the girl with her.

It hadn’t been much of a secret that Sophie didn’t cooperate with the doctors, so when she was released from the hospital she got no end of jealous stares. While she was packing to leave her roommate had picked a fight with her. Although she did her best not to fight back too much, by the time the nurses broke in and tore them apart the girl had a few scratches from Sophie’s nails and she’d probably have a few bruises. Soph hadn’t been quite so lucky. Nothing was broken, but she was sore and it aches when she breathed. She’d insisted she was fine, though, and her roommate had been taken somewhere else as she finished her packing.
Leaving the ward wasn’t exactly a joyous occasion for her. It just meant her father had decided he wanted her home. She had no idea how many days she’d have before he actually summoned her. It probably wasn’t many. She hadn’t told Mackenzie she was out yet. She knew her girlfriend would be too excited and then Sophie wouldn’t be able to broach the fact that she’d have to leave again until it was far too late.
As she entered the apartment she noted that Jesse and Archie’s things were still around. She didn’t know if they were there, but she didn’t want to interact with them if they were so she made her way to Mackenzie’s room, nudging the door open as quietly as possible. Mackenzie sat at her desk with her back to the door and headphones in. Sophie’s breath caught in her chest for a moment. She’d seen Mackenzie during visits but there was something different about it now that she had her freedom. She allowed the door to make noise as she closed it behind her. “Hey, love. I’m home.” she said.

Mack was in her own little world. She glanced at the time on her phone and in about two hours, she would be able to call and talk to Sophie. It was one of the highlights of her day. She looked forward to talking to her girlfriend. So when she heard a noise behind her, her hand froze on the paper. She paused her music, her heart beating fast in her chest. When she finally heard a voice, her head shot up. She turned around and her lips parted. She removed her airpods and set them on her desk. "Sophie..." She breathed out, pushing her chair back and getting up. She rushed to the girl and she hugged her tightly, breathing in the scent of her girlfriend.

”Hell I’ve missed you so much…” Mack whispered pulling away to look at her. ”Why didn’t you tell me you were getting out? I would have gotten you from the facility. Fuck I’m- I can’t believe you’re home…” She felt the tears fill her eyes

Sophie offered a small smile. “I wanted to surprise you,” she replied. “Besides, I got out pretty suddenly. My dad had something to do with it, I’m sure.”

Mack heard Sophie and she felt a smile form on her face which quickly disappeared. ”Your dad? Is he in town? What does your dad have to do with you getting out…” Mack wasn’t too fond of her dad. He kind of scared her.

Sophie felt bad for taking that smile away from Mackenzie, but she knew there wasn’t a point in trying to keep this a secret. “No, he’s not coming back here any time soon. But he wants me back in London for a bit. He hasn’t told me when yet but I’m guessing it will be within the week.”

Mack heard what she said and she wrapped her arms around Sophie, pulling her close. ”Then I would love to. I’ll just tell my work I’m taking a small trip,” Mack said

Mack felt Sophie kiss her and she kissed the girl back. "I missed you too..." Mack muttered against her skin. She debated on telling Sophie about what happened a few weeks ago with her run in with her mom and her mom's new boyfriend but she figured that would be a story for another day. "I'm going to shower. Archie and Jesse are still living here. I don't know what's going on with them..." Mack pulled away and she moved to grab her clothes from her dresser. In the process, she stripped off her shirt which revealed a scar in the shape of a scratch as if someone took their hand and scratched down her back.
