"Of course you did," Sophie sighed, running a hand through her hair. If Jesse moved out it might cause problems for Soph and Mackenzie holding the lease.
"Wait, I thought he was your legal guardian with your parents still living in England." the therapist said.
Soph shook her head. This was why she'd been avoiding talking. She didn't want to have to deal with questions like this. If Child Protective Services got involved there would be a problem. "No, that would be my aunt." she replied. "The ward already contacted her, she's out of town this week." It was a lie but she didn't really care.

”I told you this was temporary,” Jesse said to her. Jesse glanced at the therapist when he heard about him being the legal guardian. He heard what Sophie said and he ran a hand through his hair.
Mack looked at Sophie and then at Jesse. ”I hope it’s not because of me,” Mack said to him

"He was going to leave eventually either way." Sophie told Mackenzie. She glanced up at the clock on the wall. Five more minutes. She hadn't expected this to be quite as much of a waste of time as it had been. "We already knew that. Plus, does it really matter?"

”You have at least a month to figure out what you and Mackenzie are going to do,” Jesse said as his phone beeped. ”Sorry I have to take this. It’s work…” Jesse stood up and left the room.
Mackenzie just watched Jesse leave, her hand still in Sophie’s. Mackenzie turned to the therapist. ”Umm… do you know when Sophie can come home?” Mack asked softly

Soph watched as her brother walked away. It was fine. The sooner she could get away from everything that connected her to her family the better. He was probably thinking something similar.
"At this rate not any time soon." the therapist replied to Mack's question. That wasn't much of a surprise to Sophie. They loved threatening to keep her here indefinitely when she refused to participate.
"Dad wants me back in London in April so... No more than a month." she drawled, crossing her arms over her chest.
"We'll see about that." the therapist muttered.
"We will." she replied confidently. She didn't really want to go home but she knew she wouldn't have a choice. Even if they didn't want to let her go.

Mackenzie heard what the therapist said and she frowned, the tears filling her eyes. ”What would make her leave sooner?” Mack asked, her voice catching in her throat. She didn’t know what she would do if Sophie was gone for an entire month.

"Oh! I know this one!" Sophie said before the therapist could respond. "Actually participating, not skipping group events - or any groups for that matter - making friends I'll have to say bye to whenever they get better because heaven forbid we drag each other down later down the line... Is that it?" She raised an eyebrow. She'd done all of this before, she just wasn't really interested this time.
The therapist nodded. "Pretty much."
"Don't worry, Bluebell. Everything's going to be alright." Sophie muttered. "I'll be home before you know it. And next week they're giving me my phone back so we'll still be able to talk and stuff."

Mack heard what Sophie said and she could hear the tone of voice she was using. She heard Sophie talk to her. ”Will I be able to come visit?” Mackenzie asked her.

Mackenzie heard him and she gripped Sophie’s hand tightly. She didn’t want to leave Sophie. She didn’t know what she was going to do without Sophie around. She was so used to being with her daily, that being without her was going to be unfamiliar.

Sophie smirked. "Believe me, I don't get a moment by myself here. They check on me every 15 minutes. Even in the middle of the night." she wrinkled her nose. "Mack, I'm going to be alright. This isn't the first time I've been in a place like this and it probably won't be my last. Are... Are you going to be good on your own, though?"
