Mack heard her and Mack’s fingers went to Sophie’s jacket. Her fingers were playing with the zipper. ”Come on… let’s make out for a bit before you go and deal with whoever is out there…” Mack whispered

Sophie’s hand went to Mackenzie’s as she felt her play with the zipper. “As much as I would love to, I still haven’t eaten and I’m starving.” she said, taking a step away

"Really I don't mind," Mack said softly, her lips kissing Sophie's jaw lightly. "Go deal with whoever is outside, and when you come back in, I'll have food ready for us."

“Thank you, Mackenzie,” she whispered, then walked over to the wall by the window to glance out without being visible from the outside. “It’s the black car, I’m guessing?” That was the only one that seemed suspicious. “How did they even find parking so close?” she muttered.

Mack heard Sophie use her real name versus her nickname and her stomach flipped. She loved when Sophie called her by her name. Mack heard her question. ”Yeah. I have no idea how long it’s been there. But it hasn’t moved,” Mack said to her as she got out some food to cook

Sophie frowned and nodded. “It’s probably nothing. I’ll be back in a moment,” she said, walking over and go in Mackenzie a quick kiss before heading out the door.
She made her way downstairs and crossed the street as casually as possible, keeping her face mostly blocked by her hair up until she knocked on the dark window of the car. It took a moment before a large man opened the door. “Oh good! I thought I saw your silhouette in here. I know it’s kind of silly, but I somehow managed to get lost and was wondering if you could give me some directions,” she said, her tone laced with airy innocence. She didn’t recognise the man so she was guessing she wasn’t in immediate danger of being recognised in return. She was wrong.
“You’re Jason’s girl, right?” he asked, with a slight Russian accent. Not her people then. That would have been the best case scenario, but she doubted her gang would like Russians very much. They were very paranoid that the Russian mob would sneak into their ranks.
“I don’t know who you’re talking about, I’m just lost,” she replied, taking half a step back. If he decided to just grab her she doubted she’d be able to break free long enough to grab her gun.
“I think you do. Let’s see… what’s your name? Valeria? Valerie? Something like that.” he drawled. She didn’t let the surprise show on her face. She hadn’t expected him to know that much. “You went to meet up with my friend, Benny, and Benny didn’t come back that night.”
“So you’re not staking out the area for me, then. If you were you wouldn’t seem so surprised to see me.” she sighed, deciding to drop the act rather than address the issue he’d just brought up. Since she’d been unconscious she didn’t know what had happened to his friend, but she was willing to guess he had died. “Who are you here for, then?” she asked, glancing at the area he’d have the bet vantage point of from his car. Mack had been right that it was their apartment.
“I don’t reveal my marks to anyone, much less enemies or murderers like you.” he growled.
“Now that’s a bit harsh,” she pouted. “I don’t need to know more, though. If you’re willing to stay out of my way I’ll stay out of yours. Since this is my territory here’s the deal. I’ll pay you double whatever your client is if you drop this case. Say you couldn’t find your mark or whatever. If they still want to look into the matter, give them my number and tell them the truth, that I know this area much better than you do.”
He grabbed her wrist in what was, as expected, a tight grip. “And why would I do that? Believe it nor not I have this thing called loyalty, and you hurt one of my best pals. This is much more than just my mark now.”
Sophie rolled her eyes and reached into her jacket to pull out her gun with her free hand. “I didn’t think I was really giving you a choice. I have backup all around here, if you want a fight you don’t stand a chance.” It was mostly a bluff, but even the threat of a gun should have been enough.

Mack gnawed at her lower lip when Sophie left. She hated the fact that Sophie was putting herself in danger. Mack busied herself in cooking dinner and she kept an eye on the clock. When dinner was done, 20 minutes had passed and Sophie still wasn’t in the house. She set the stuff on the table and she put her robe on. She cursed herself for not wearing more clothing. She slid her uggs on her feet and made her way outside. ”Dinners done…” Mack said as she looked both ways before crossing the street

Soph glanced up as she heard Mackenzie’s voice, then looked back down at the man’s face. “God, you look like a dog that just heard it’s favorite treat bad being opened,” she rolled her eyes and pulled her arm away from him. “She’s under my protection, so I suggest you tho back and consider how to take me out before you even think about getting close to her. Or you’ll end up like your friend Benny.” her voice was a low growl laced with threat and she saw the man considering his options. “Do I need to remind you that I still have a gun to your head? Get. Out.”

Mack saw Sophie look at her and then as she got closer, she heard Sophie’s words. She saw the gun to the man’s head and she took a small step back. ”Are you coming?” Mack asked, her voice wavering. She wasn’t a fan of guns. She didn’t mind Sophie having one, but seeing it and seeing it to the man’s head, it was a little frightening.

Sophie looked up again and smiled at Mackenzie. “Yeah, I’m coming.” she replied. “And he’s leaving,” she growled with a pointed look at the man before returning her pistol to her jacket and walking around the car back towards Mackenzie. “Let’s get inside.”

Mack heard what she said and she watched her walk back to her. She wrapped an arm around Sophie’s waist and walked towards the apartment. ”So who is he?” Mack asked her

Sophie shrugged. “Your mom hired him,” she began, “He’s some Russian guy whos friend I happened to have a scuffle with last night and now he’s mad at me too.”
