Carter heard what she said. "There is a reason why they tell you that you need to consume a certain amount of calories a day. You may have been living off of less calories but you weren't healthy," Carter said. "If you don't get enough food, your body eats away at the muscles and eventually your bones. You may think you're okay but... I don't need you to be in the hospital again..." Carter had been so worried about his sister and wondered if it had been his fault that she was in the hospital because they had been so close but he never noticed the signs. "He has a right to be worried about you. Your hands were shaking, you almost passed out and you just don't seem like yourself." He heard what she said about Marcel. "Fine I won't tell him but I'm serious Charley.... you can't do this to yourself again."

Charley nodded. "I know. I haven't forgotten and I don't ever want to be in a hospital again - not after dad." She hated hospitals now. She'd never been particularly fond of them, but now she would do anything she could to avoid them. "I won't get to that point. This is just one off day, I need something to eat then I need to get some rest. I'll be fine." she assured him. "Now if you don't mind I'm done talking about this," she added firmly, turning her head to gaze out the window.

Carter heard what she said about not wanting to be in a hospital. He was going to say something but he thought twice about it. He heard what she said about this being just one off day. "I really hope so Charley. I really do. I'm only worried because I love you and you're my big sister... without you, I don't know what I would do..." He heard what she said about being done talking about this and he sighed as he pulled into the driveway of their mother's house. "Fine. Let me know what you want from the Chinese place and I'll order it."

Charley heard what her brother said and did her best not to flinch against the words. She was supposed to be there for him and getting herself wrapped up in other problems wouldn’t help with that.
She glanced up at Carter as he spoke again. He’d order it. No accidentally leaving something off so she was left with less. She knew that if she had to lie she’d have to use new ones. He’d certainly recognise her old tactics if she used those. Rather than forcing herself into less she could use the opposite approach. If there would be left overs anyway she could probably get away with not eating everything she would if there was “just enough.” Plus with leftovers she could get rid of them in the future and her brother would assume she’d eaten.
As she pulled up the menu and wrote out what she wanted (steamed dumplings, chicken and broccoli, chow mien, and fried rice) she debated other ways to distract her brother. ”Do you want to watch a movie?” she asked, not looking up from her phone. ”Something light and silly. You know, like old times.”

Carter knew that if he allowed Charley to order their food, she would most likely not order enough food for her. Or she would leave something out. He knew that if he ordered the food, he could control it and make sure enough food was ordered. Carter heard what she asked and he nodded his head. "Sure we can watch a movie," Carter said to her. "As long as you eat enough while we do."

Charley nodded. "I will," she muttered, then handed him the list she'd made. Then she slowly headed up to her room to put down her purse. Carter was right, she had to eat and she shouldn't feel bad about it. Today was a particularly low calorie day, it wasn't like she was over her budget or anything. She just hated being cornered about it.

Carter took the list from her and he glanced at it. At least he knew that whatever was going to be ordered, it would be enough. He got out of the car and headed into the house. He made his way to the kitchen and called in the order while getting a bottle of water for himself. He then made his way up to his room and sat back down on his desk. He glanced at the picture of him, Charley and their dad back in London. It was one of the last pictures of the three of them before their dad got sick. Carter wiped away the few tears that fell down his cheeks.

Charlotte eyed her bed. It would be very easy to just go to sleep and just eat in the morning. But Carter wouldn't be happy with that and for the moment she wanted Carter to be content. So she let herself get her thoughts together and then left her room and headed to Carter's. "Hey, I'm sorry," she said. "I was selfish back then. I didn't consider how what I was doing would effect everyone else. And I know that this reminds you of that and you're freaking out. But I'm not that same person anymore."

Carter laid the picture face down. He didn't need it staring at him when he had a book report to finish. Carter heard his sister's voice and he listened to her. He looked at her. "I get that you're not the same person as back then. But there is still a little bit of the same person inside of you Charley. Even if you don't see it, I do," Carter said to her. "Marcel has helped break part of the old you but she's still in there. And that scares me..."

"No, I mean..." Charley shook her head. "I didn't mean now with Marcel and America and... Well everything else that's happened in the past 3 years. And I guess I myself will never be different, I always find some problem to have, but the bulimia? I'm not going back there. Eating disorders are messy, I've been on both sides of them, I know all the statistics and I-I remember the pain." Her voice shook at that. She remembered the hospital and the treatments, but she also remembered the disorder itself, the cycle that had dragged her down but she was too addicted to to break. This was different, right? It had to be different because she would not be stupid enough to get stuck in that cycle again. "What I'm trying to say is I missed a few meals because I was busy but I'm not sick like I was then. You're making it a bigger problem than it is." She sighed before making one final compromise against her desires. "And if it would make you feel better I'll eat all my meals with you tomorrow too."

Carter heard what she said. He knew that she went through a lot with the bulimia and it took a huge toll on her body. While he wanted, desperately, to believe her, he didn't know if he could. He was going to give her the benefit of the doubt and believe her because she was his sister and he loved her. "You do understand why I am though right? Yes I have mom and Josh, but you're really all I have..." Carter said to her. He heard what she said. "Make it a week. Well all the meals tomorrow and then at least just dinner with me..."

"I do understand, Carter," she replied, "I really do. Through everything it's been you and me and I can't imagine a world without that. I'm certainly not going to do anything to make the world that way."
She nodded at his compromise. "Alright." she agreed. She could do a week. It would be harder to make excuses for everyone else, but she could at the very least convince her brother she was being healthy for a week. "But, um... I love you, Carter, and I don't have a problem proving to you that I'm doing well because I know what it would mean if I wasn't, but I also need you to trust me, alright?"

Carter heard what she said and he nodded his head, believing every word that was coming out of her mouth. When she agreed to his compromise he visibly relaxed. At least he knew for a week, she would eat and get some sort of nutrition. He listened to Charley. "I love you C... you're my big sister and I just, I need you to be okay. If you weren't, I don't know what I would do..." He sighed softly. "So I trust you when you say that you're okay and that you're not starving yourself."

Charley hated smudging the truth when it came to Carter. They'd both lied and kept things from each other in the past, but it didn't stop the guilt from eating at her even more than the hunger. She walked up to Carter and wrapped her arms around him. "Come on, let's go pick out a movie," she said with a smile. She desperately wanted to leave this subject behind.

Carter knew that in the past they have lied to each other thinking they were protecting the other. After their dad died, Charley disappeared into her work and not being home with him and their mom because she couldn't stand her. He had to lie about how he was (well wasn't) coping. He's sure he's hurt her in many ways but he knew that not having her around, would hurt him the most. He felt her arms around him and he hugged her arms. "I'll be right down okay?" Carter said softly. "I'm just going to put my stuff away."
