Today was Ari's birthday party and she was turning 4 years old. He couldn't believe how big she was getting and it made his heart hurt that one, Jamie was missing all of the milestones and 2, Ari was almost school age. She had wanted a princess party so that was what he was giving her. He had rented a bounce house for the kids and while Ari napped he set it up. It was the one surprise that she didn't know was going to be there and he was excited to see her reaction. The cake was in the fridge and everything was practically set up to go.
One thing he couldn't wait for was for Charley to come over. She had finally graduated and now they didn't have to keep their relationship a secret. He had been wanting to tell the whole world that he and Charley were dating. The one person he couldn't wait to tell was his younger sister Chantel. She was coming to the party and he was excited. It's been a while since Ari has seen her and he hasn't seen her in the same amount of time. Chantel hadn't seen Ari since she was a baby and with her being 5 years younger than him, school got in the way of her visiting. Now she was 18, ironically the same age as Charley, and she was graduated so she was going to live in New York for the summer before she decided on where to go to school.
"Marcel?" a voice called from the back gate.
Marcel grinned as he heard his sisters voice and he grabbed the cane he used to walk and turned around. He regained his walking ability but he was still a little unstable on his feet so he had to use a cane to help him out a bit. "Chantel!" Marcel said brightly as he made his way to his sister. He hugged her tightly. "I'm glad you were able to come."
"How could I miss my nieces birthday party?" Chantel said hugging her brother tightly. It was when she pulled away that she noticed the cane. "What's this for?"
Marcel glanced at the cane and he sighed. "Ari and I were in an accident, a really bad one. I couldn't walk for a while but I can walk now but I need assistance sometimes. I'm a little unstable on my feet," Marcel said. "How about you go and see if Ari's awake?"
"Absolutely," Chantel said skipping into the house.
Marcel grinned as he watched her go. He pulled out his phone and opened up his messages to Charley. Hey baby! What time do you think you'll be getting here? I want to introduce you to someone. Marcel sent her and then he made his way back inside.
"Daddy look! Aunt Chantel is here!" Ari squealed hugging Chantel while she carried her down the stairs.
"I do hope you didn't wake her," Marcel said hoping that his daughter wouldn't be cranky.
"She was already awake when I got upstairs," Chantel said grinning.
About an hour later, the party was in full swing. Marcel had yet to hear from Charley and he frowned as he checked his phone again. He opened up the texts and sent her another one. Hey.. where are you? Ari's asking for you... Marcel sent her again before sliding his phone into his pocket. He glanced out at his daughter who was playing in the bounce house with his sister while his parents were sitting off to the side, talking quietly.
