Sophie smirked. “He’s definitely a good person to have on your side.” she replied. Just then, she spotted Jason approaching the table. “Speak of the devil,” she muttered.
Jason came up and sat next to Sophie. “I know Kelsy’s pissed at me, but Sophie what do you have against me?” he asked, looking at the prices on the menu.
“Me?” she asked innocently. “You wanted a neutral place, I told her to choose anywhere and she chose here. It’s not like I guided her to make this decision or anything.”

Kelsy heard her sister and she smirked and then it faded when she saw Jason. She watched him sit down and look at the menu. She glanced at her phone and quickly responded to a text from one of the girls from back home who she fooled around with.

Jason glared at Sophie then looked back at Kelsy. “So,” he ran a hand through his hair. “Why did you come to America?”
Sophie watched Jason. This calm approach wasn’t going to work. It was only a matter of time before Kelsy exploded on him. Hopefully she’d at least wait for the food. Sophie was hungry.

Kelsy heard what her brother said and she raised an eyebrow at him. "Because I wanted to," She said leaning back in her chair, crossing her arms over her chest. "Why did you come here?" She shot back.

Kelsy heard what Jason said and she scoffed. "Sure you do. I didn't hear from you, no contact, nothing. You just up and left with no note, no nothing," Kelsy said to him. "I think you're a lying piece of shit."

“I didn’t have time.” he replied, running a hand through his hair. “Kelsy it wasn’t my choice to leave. If it had things my way it never would have happened.”
"Yeah well it did and I don't know how to forgive you for that," Kelsy said to him. "You care about me more than Mom does and you just abandoned me. The one thing I used to verbalize I was afraid of and you promised it wouldn't happen and then you went and left."

Jason opened his mouth to respond then glanced at Sophie and reconsidered. “Val, could you go somewhere else?” he asked.
Sophie raised an eyebrow. “Not interested.” she replied then turned her attention back to the menu. She didn’t really want to leave Kelsy alone with him in case she freaked out and tried to run again.
“Please?” he asked, “Give me ten minutes.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Fine,” she said, grabbing her phone from her purse. “Ten minutes. Kelsy, I’ll be right outside, ok? If you want to leave make sure you grab my purse on the way out.” She motioned for Jason to get out of the booth so she could slide out then walked away.
Jason watched to make sure she was out of hearing range before speaking. “Kelsy, mom cares about you. She’s not good at showing it but she does.”
Kelsy heard jason and she glanced at Sophie. This would go one of two ways. She would either stay seated and talk to him, or she would bolt. She wouldn’t know until it arose. Kelsy heard Sophie and she nodded her head. Kelsy lent back in the booth and she looked at him. ”Yeah well I’m used to being disappointment and being on my own,” she muttered as she drew an imaginary circle on the table top

“Kelsy,” Jason frowned, “You’re not a disappointment and you’re not on your own. You may not have the most stable life, but you’re not on your own. You have people taking care of you, even if they don’t always show up to your birthday party.” Jason had much less when he was growing up. His mother had been young when she had him. She hadn’t been in a position to take care of a child and often left him to fend for himself. She’d gotten better as he’d gotten older, but that didn’t make up for the first few years of his life. “Is that why you came to America? Did you think Sophie would be more consistent?”

Kelsy heard what Jason said and while she didn't doubt that people were around her, she felt alone. She felt like she didn't have anyone in her life. Everyone she loved, mainly her brother, abandoned her. Kelsy heard what Jason said and she shrugged. "It's not why I came to America. I came here because I want to be on my own," Kelsy said to him, glancing at the table.
