Sophie shook her head as she pulled on a hoodie and short sweat pant like shorts. “Are you sure? You said you were tired, you could get some rest now if you wanted.” She glanced in the mirror and wiped off her ruined lipstick before pulling her hair into a messy high ponytail.

"I'm sure. I don't want to be away from you," Mack said to her as she stood up, her eyes taking in her girlfriends body as she stood up. "Shame you have to get dressed..." Mack commented as she fixed her hair and wiped off Sophie's lipstick from her lips.

Sophie just nodded and let Mackenzie finish getting dressed. She had a bad feeling about this. Anyone who would be visiting Cat when she was home alone and drunk was probably bad company. Once Mack was done getting dressed, she headed down to the entrance. No one was there, but she heard Katherine’s laugh from the living room, so she headed that way. She paused just before the doorway as she recognised the other voice. Blake. She glanced back at Mackenzie. “Are you sure you don’t just want to go to bed? This may get a bit… messy,” she said.

Mackenzie followed Sophie down to the entrance and she heard Cat's laugh and a male voice. She saw Sophie pause and then turn back to look at her. "I'll stay," Mack said in finality in her voice.

Sophie nodded before heading into the room. Katherine saw her immediately, but thankfully Blake’s back was turned to her. “Are you sure drinking more is a good idea? I can’t take care of you tonight if you get too drunk,” Sophie drawled, motioning to the glasses on the table.
Blake, recognising her voice, turned to face her. She was struck by those dark brown eyes framed with blonde hair. His face was the only one she associated with complete security. He was one of the few people her father was afraid of. Something tightened in her chest as she heard his voice. “It’s water,” he informed Sophie. “Long time no see.” he added.
“Yeah,” Sophie said softly, still standing in the entrance not making any motion to fully enter the room.

Mackenzie heard Sophie speak and when the guy turned around, her eyes took him in. She glanced at Sophie and she noticed her features change. She glanced between the two as they spoke. She heard how softly Sophie spoke and she nudged her. "Are you okay?" Mack asked her softly. "Who is this?"

Sophie blinked and nodded as Mack nudged her. “Yeah, I’m good.” she said. She’d have to handle this situation carefully. She didn’t want to make an enemy of Blake, but she didn’t want to do anything stupid that would mess up her relationship with Mackenzie either. “Bluebell, this is Blake. Blake, meet Mackenzie. She lives with me in New York.” she said.
Blake smiled one of those big smiles and Sophie looking away, disguising the motion as she found a seat to sit in. “It’s nice to meet you, Mackenzie. Any friend of Soph’s is a friend of mine,” Blake said.

“Julia dated his older brother,” Sophie replied.
“You knew each other before that, though. Blake is my cousin.” Katherine chimed in. Sophie shrugged. She had run into him a few times before Julia started dating his brother, but she hadn’t cared about his existence. Not until she realised how much power his family held over her father. Then they’d been seated at tables together because Julia insisted on their families joining each other at events and Sophie had had all the opportunity she needed to make a move.
“Maybe,” Blake said, “But back then I assumed she was just a bratty kid. Now I can say for a fact that she is.” His eyes sparkled with amusement. He was trying to get a reaction out of her. She knew that, but she still wanted to stick her tongue out at him or wrinkle her nose. It took a lot of effort to keep a straight face. “What about you guys?” he asked.

Mackenzie glanced at Sophie as she spoke. Then she glanced at Cat. Seemed like the three of them were close and that made Mack question whether or not she actually belonged in the city with her or not. Mackenzie heard Blake’s question. ”Oh Sophie and I met at a party and we became friends really quick,” Mack said to him with a small smile towards her girlfriend

“Mackenzie,” Blake mused, studying Sophie’s face. “You told me about her, didn’t you? Some party you were throwing?” Sophie nodded slowly, not sure how close he was to actually connecting the dots. “I thought that was a one time thing.” he said. That didn’t give Sophie any more of an idea of what he was thinking.
“You told him but you didn’t tell me?!” Cat demanded. Sophie ignored her.
“I didn’t find out until later that she went to the same school as me.” Sophie replied. That seemed neutral enough.

Mackenzie heard what Blake said about how she told him about me. It made her blush slightly at the fact that she talked about her before they got close. ”I became that annoying person who wouldn’t leave her alone and then I guess eventually she gave up,” Mack said not sure if she should even interject

“Gave up?” Blake raised an eyebrow. “That doesn’t sound like my Sophie.”
Sophie did her best not to flinch. That was probably enough to give them away. “I’m not your anything,” she said, “And I didn’t give up. I just saw things in a different light.”
“And what light would that be?” he asked.
Sophie shook her head. “I’m not in the mood to do this with you right now, Blake. Why don’t you go home? I can take care of Kitten.” she said rather than answering the question. So much for staying friendly.
“But we’re not done talking,” he said.
“We can talk later. It’s not like I changed my number.” she shot back.
“For Christ’s sake, Blake.” Katherine cut in, “You broke her heart, the least you can do is leave her alone.” Sophie glared in Katherine’s direction.
“Alright, alright, I’m going. I’ll see you tomorrow, Cat, and Soph? We’ll talk later?” He seemed so innocent, like he genuinely just wanted to talk. Sophie crossed her arms over her chest but she nodded reluctantly and then Blake headed out.

Mackenzie heard him say 'my' Sophie and her heart stopped. She thought back to when they first met and she remembered her saying something about a boyfriend. She glanced at Sophie and then at Blake. This was her boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend now. She listened to the interaction between the three, although it seemed muted thanks to the heart pounding in her ears. She watched as he left and she stared at the door, unsure of if she should move, talk or even breathe.

Sophie didn’t move from her position with her arms crossed over her chest after Blake was gone. Without him there it felt like she could breath freely again, but new concerns piled onto her. He might want to back her into a corner. If the only way to turn him down was to make an enemy out of him, Sophie didn’t know what she would do. She couldn’t afford to be on his bad side, even if she now lived an ocean away.
“He misses you,” Katherine whispered across the room.
Sophie glanced up at her. “I don’t miss him. I just regret that I can’t punch him in the face,” she replied, then glanced at Katherine’s nearly full glass of water. “Drink up, Kitten. Or you’ll have a really bad headache in the morning.”
