Mav nodded. “Of course you can,” he replied, “I’ve read every book I own anyway, it’s not like I need them anymore. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to come back to the shelter though.”

Dani heard what he said about borrowing the books and she smiled and the frowned about his response to the shelter. ”Is this because you helped me?” Dani asked him. ”Your sister told me to not take advantage of your kindness otherwise I would have to answer to her… I hope you don’t think I’m taking advantage of you…”

Mav frowned. “No! Of course not,” he replied quickly. “I’m in trouble for skipping my audition, not for helping you. That ones on me, I could have come and bailed you out after it was over.”

”I just didn’t want you to think that I’m taking advantage of you or anything because I’m not trying too. It’s just you’re the only real friend I trust and have,” Dani said looking around. ”Your parents made a dance studio for you? That’s pretty cool.”

Maverick smirked. “You’re not, and if she said that it’s just because she’s a bit touchy about that sort of thing. Some of her friends have put her in bad situations in the past.” he said, trying his best to reassure Dani. “They got this apartment with this in mind. They considered it to be a necessity.” he said, glancing around the room. It was small for a studio, but Mav and Mal were the only ones that used it so it didn’t have to be large.

Dani let her hand touch the bars in the room. ”It seemed like no matter what I told her, she came back at me. Something about if I was looking for pity, I wasn’t going to get it from her. I was just trying to make conversation,” Dani said turning to look at him. ”I would spend so many hours in here… it’s peaceful.”

Mav shrugged. “She’s just like that, don’t let it get to you. She’s gotten hurt for being empathetic and now she thinks everyone has ulterior motives. You did nothing wrong.” He chucked at her comment about the studio being peaceful. “I spend a lot of time here, but I don’t know about peaceful. There are a lot of emotions in this room.”

Dani heard what he said about his sister. She knew that she shouldn't let it bother her but she did. She heard what he said about the room and she smiled. "I guess as an outsider, it seems peaceful to me," Dani said softly. "Can you show me a dance?"

Mav smirked, then went over and reset the song he’d been playing on loop until she’d arrived. He went through the familiar steps - mainly classical with a hip hop edge.

Dani watched him intently as he walked over to start the song she had heard earlier. Watching him was like a breath of fresh air. He looked like he enjoyed what he was doing. Her eyes followed his motions and she felt a smile form on her face.

Toward the end of the dance, Mav felt a pain in his knee but tried to cover it. Whenever he reacted to things like that his parents and his sister always freaked out. He did stop and walked over to turn off the music, though. “Somehow I still don’t have that one down,” he muttered with a wry smile. “Do you know how to dance?” he asked curiously.

Dani watched him and her facial features frowned. She could tell something was off with him. She heard what he muttered when he turned off the music. "I thought it was beautiful," Dani said to him. She heard what he asked and she shook her head. "No, well I can dance just not well. Whatever we did in drama was all I could do."
