The school day had gone smoothly enough, but Sophie still hated it. She would always hate actually going to class when she could learn so much faster if she was just given the assignments and sent off to figure it out on her own. Unfortunately, it turned out she couldn't be exhausted yet.
"Fifi," a voice said as she exited the building and a chill went down Sophia's spine.
"Are you going to try to talk," there was some bitterness in that word, "me into going home again? I already decided I'm staying here no matter what you say. Isn't it better for you that way anyway?"
"You haven't seen your father in months and your first thought is to ignore him and get away as quickly as you can?" he asked. She glanced up at him and shrugged. "I just want to catch up over a cup of tea. You're heading home now aren't you? It's not like it's out of your way."
"Whatever, you'd follow me back anyway." she muttered, pulling out her phone to text a warning to her roommates.
"It's not polite to be on your phone while talking to someone." he said, warning lacing his voice.
She glanced up at him and shook her head. "I don't really care what you think is polite or impolite."
"I'd really suggest you put it away." he glared at her and she sighed and made a big deal of dramatically turning off her phone.
They walked the rest of the way to the apartment in silence and when they got to the door she made sure to make as much noise as she could without being obvious about it. "I'm back! And not alone so be decent!" She wasn't sure her words would enough of a warning as she opened the door, but it was the best she could do. She made her way over to the kitchen to begin filling the kettle with water.
