Sophie heard Mackenzie call out and a pang went through her. She knew how these things worked and she knew Mackenzie couldn’t be panicking. “It’s ok Bluebell, I’ll be right there don’t worry. Breath deep for me, ok?”
The paramedic glared at her, apparently unhappy that she’d overstepped her bounds, but she ignored it. “Alright, once they get her in you can follow and then I’m going to have some paperwork for you to fill out.”
“Just promise me she’ll be ok,” she whispered.
He looked at her sadly and she knew he couldn’t do that but the face that he didn’t made her hate him. “We’re going to do everything we can for her. But before I can let you into the ambulance I’m going to need you to take a deep breath. If you’re panicking you’ll freak her out and she needs to be calm right now.”
Sophie closed her eyes and took a breath then opened them and nodded. “I’m good,” she said. “Whatever paperwork you need done I’ll fill in whatever I can.”

Mackenzie heard Sophie’s voice and she tried to have some breaths but she needed Sophie. ”Please… I need her… pl-please…” Mack whispered her breaths coming out in gasps. She felt her eyes flutter shut before she forced them open again she just needed Sophie with her.

Sophie watched as Mackenzie was loaded into the ambulance and then she followed her on. “I’m here, Mackenzie. I’m here.” she breathed. “Just stay with me it’s all going to be alright.” Then a clipboard with paperwork was shoved at her and the paramedics were shouting various things to each other and hooking Mackenzie to different things to ‘stabilise her’

Mackenzie heard Sophie and she reached out to try and grasp her hand. She wanted her and wanted to feel her touch. She felt like the walls were closing in in her. She watched with frantic eyes as they started hooking her up to things. She watched as they cut away her shirt and she whimpered and then hissed as the air hit her wound

When Mackenzie reached out, Sophie grabbed her hand. "It's ok, I'm going to stay by your side until we get to the hospital. Just keep your eyes open, ok?" she asked, then glanced at the paperwork. She wasn't sure she knew all the information. She wasn't even sure they'd check Mackenzie in considering they were both minors. But they wouldn't turn her away while she was unstable... right?

Mackenzie felt Sophie’s hand. ”I love you Sophie…. You’re my world…” Mackenzie whispered as she felt the putting a piece of gauze on her side. Mackenzie really hoped that she would pull through but right now, she didn’t know what to think. Her lips were getting bluer and her skin was ghost white.

"I love you too, Mackenzie. Don't you dare leave me." she felt tears rolling down her face and absolutely hated it. She shouldn't be crying like this, she should be taking care of Mackenzie right now.

About three hours later, Mackenzie was brought back into a recovery room after surgery to fix the wound. They had separated Mackenzie and Sophie but she was too exhausted to have noticed. Mackenzie was laying in the hospital bed, hooked up to a heart monitor, an IV in her hand, an oxygen mask on her face and a drain coming out of her side to drain the internal bleeding.
A nurse came to find Sophie. ”Ms. Foster? Ms. Camden is out of surgery if you would like to see her,” The nurse said softly.

Sophie was exhausted, but she hadn't even risked closing her eyes to fall asleep while Mackenzie was in surgery. It was about 7.30 in the morning when they finally came to get her and offered to let her see Mackenzie. She jumped up immediately to follow the nurse. "I-is she ok?" she asked as she was shown the way.

The nurse looked at Sophie. ”Your friend is lucky. They missed vital organs and we were able to repair the internal wounds,” The nurse said. ”She has several stitches and a drain to help drain the blood but she’ll be okay. She just had to rest for the next couple of weeks. Avoid strenuous activities that could cause any sort of tearing.” she stopped at a door. ”Shes still sleeping.”

Sophie nodded and followed the nurse to the door. "Thank you," she whispered, making her way into the room and sitting down by the bed. "Mackenzie, I'm here baby, it's going to be alright," she muttered as she took Mackenzie's hand and leaned her forehead against her arm. She was so tired.

Mackenzie wasn’t sure how much time had passed. But eventually she started to wake up from the anesthesia and that’s when all the pain hit at once. Mackenzie groaned in pain as she tried to move her hand to grip her side. But it was the same hand that Sophie was holding on to.

Sophie nodded. "I was praying for you," she muttered rubbing the cross around her neck. "But I wouldn't have let you died. I would have... I don't know but there's no way I was going to let you go."
